A Denmark citizen visiting New York City was reportedly mugged at knifepoint over his "Make America Great Again" hat on Thursday.
The alleged muggers reportedly would not return the Danish tourist's red MAGA hat back.
What are the details of the incident?
Page Six reported that the 18-year-old tourist was preparing to board a subway at Union Square when two men reportedly accosted him from behind and grabbed the MAGA hat off his head.
The victim reportedly tried to fight back, but his attempts were thwarted when one of the suspects allegedly pulled a knife on the tourist and threatened him with it.
One of the men reportedly asked the tourist, "What are you doing with that hat on?" pointing to the MAGA hat.
Then the suspects fled, the outlet reported.
According to Page Six, one of the suspects was described as a balding white male, about 6-foot-tall, with light facial hair, and in his 20s or 30s.
He was reportedly wearing a "tan or brown jacket, dark pants, and a baseball cap."
This is why we can't have nice things
This type of incident is almost garden-variety since President Donald Trump threw his hat in the ring for president.
Just on Tuesday, a pro-Trump billboard on a private California property was vandalized.
According to a local news outlet, the billboard had been egged and was "riddled with holes."
In August, several teens wearing MAGA gear to historically black Howard University were harassed and threatened, and like New York City's young Danish tourist, one of their hats were taken, too. Conversely, their hat was returned.
During another occasion in December, members of a College Republicans club were reportedly kicked out of a local coffee shop for their wearing of the same — apparently controversial — hats.
In November, a left-wing student at the University of California, Riverside, was caught on video delivering a 10-minute, profanity-laced political tirade after she took another student’s Make America Great Again hat right off his head.
