Hillary Clinton defends 'uncivil' leftist response to immigration, calls for 'resisting' Trump

In an interview published by The Guardian on Friday, Hillary Clinton was asked about left being called uncivil in their protests over the immigration crisis at the Mexico border.

The Guardian’s Decca Aitkenhead wrote: "Democrats have been provoked to condemn the president with a passion some on the left warn is becoming 'uncivil.' ”

Clinton's response:

Oh, give me a break. Give me a break! What is more uncivil and cruel than taking children away? It should be met with resolve and strength. And if some of that comes across as a little uncivil, well, children’s lives are at stake; their futures are at stake. That is that ridiculous concept of bothsideism.

"Well, you know, somebody made an insulting, profane remark about President Trump, and he separated 2,300 children from their families, that’s both sides, and we should stop being uncivil – oh and, by the way, he should stop separating children." Give me a break, really. I mean, this is a crisis of his making that will damage kids for no good reason at all, and I think everybody should be focused on that until the children are reunited.

What are some of the things that have happened?

Earlier this week, immigration protesters confronted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, (R-Ky.), and his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, as they left Georgetown University. Protesters swarmed Chao and shouted at her, as she told them to leave her husband alone. The incident was taped and shared across social media.

Elsewhere, demonstrators have obstructed or forced the temporary closure of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement offices across the country. Others, including actress Cynthia Nixon, a Democratic challenger for New York governor, have called ICE a terrorist group that should be abolished.

And in Stuart, Florida, a man was arrested for threatening to kill Republican Rep. Brian Mast’s children because migrant children were being separated from their parents at the border. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to stop the practice, but government agencies are struggling with how to reunite families, according to published reports.

On Monday, Lawrence Key allegedly called to Mast’s office and said: “I’m going to find the congressman’s kids and kill them. If you’re going to separate kids at the border, I’m going to kill his kids. Don’t try to find me because you won’t.”

In the Guardian interview, Clinton dabbed tears away from her eyes as she spoke about child migrants who were separated from their parents as they attempted to enter the U.S.

“I mean, you just … who thinks like that? Who does these things? How can anybody look in the mirror? How can they actually live with themselves? If you heard about it in some third-world banana republic, you’d say: ‘That’s horrible! Stop it! Who would do that?’ Now it’s happening in our country, and it’s just so distressing. I think a lot of us keep waiting for the bottom – and it just seems to be bottomless," she said.

The interview goes on to note that during recent speeches, Clinton has quoted from Madeleine Albright’s new book, "Fascism: A Warning."

“I wonder if now, when she watches footage of detention camps, she is beginning to think this is what fascism looks like,” Aitkenhead wrote.

Clinton responded:

Well, here’s what I believe. There are certain characteristics of authoritarian leaders trying to isolate and demonize minorities, which we see happening. Looking to undermine the rule of law in as many ways as possible, some of which we have seen happening. Going after the press – and recently he called the press the nation’s No 1 enemy. There are certain behaviors that I think would raise anybody’s alarms.

Anything else?

Clinton's animated responses continued when she was asked about the jacked worn by first lady Melania Trump when recently visited a child detention center. The olive green jacket had the words, "I really don't care, do u?" written in bold letters across its back.

According to the report: "Clinton slumps back in her chair, wide eyed, arms spread, defeated by the mystery. ‘That, I have no idea. I have no idea. I can’t even … I don’t have any idea. I don’t know.’ Does she feel sorry for the first lady? ‘I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.'”
