Leftist actress asks why more white football players don’t kneel: ‘How are you not complicit?’
October 22, 2018
Amy Schumer, liberal actress — and leftist activist — shared a Friday Instagram post in which she suggested that white NFL players are complicit in racism if they do not kneel for the national anthem.
Sorry, what?
Schumer, who has more than 7 million followers on the social networking platform, called the musing her "Friday thought."
"I wonder," she wrote, "why more white players aren’t kneeling."
"Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders. Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit?" Schumer asked, and then went on to suggest that it would be "cool" if Maroon 5 — who are reportedly performing for Super Bowl LIII's halftime show — pulled out of their purported agreement to play.
"I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri Did," Schumer wrote.
The entertainer also noted that she refused to participate in any Super Bowl commercials for the Feb. 3 game in Atlanta.
"I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year," she said. "I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all I got. Hitting the NFL with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them."
Schumer then went on and compared the NFL to the National Rifle Association: Opposing one is like opposing the other.
"Very tough," she explained, "but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living? Stand up for your brothers and sisters of color."
"And the hottest thing a guy can do is get down on one knee," Schumer added. "Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country. Anyone who says [it's] disrespectful to our military please read up on the fact that a lot of veterans are proud of what @kaepernick7 is doing and fully support him."
What else?
Schumer concluded her post by asking her followers their thoughts.
The comments on her post were, of course, a mixed bag.
