Entertainer Cher has issued an apology for calling President Donald Trump a "murderer" last week in a blistering tweet.
What did she say at the time?
On Friday, Cher — real name Cherilyn Sarkisian — wrote, "[T]rump HAS ACCESS 2 EVERY MASK, SHIELD, GOWN, GLOVE, BED, VENTiLATOR, RESPIRATOR, TEST KIT, NATIONAL GUARDSMAN, SOLDIER FROM ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, NURSES, DR.'S, TECHS, 1ST RESPONDERS NEEDED 2 SAVE THE LIVES OF CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS, & CAREGIVERS. Trump IS A LIAR, & MURDERER. OPEN UR [eyes]."
Cher's tweet was apparently directed at the president's handling of the COVID-19 crisis.
She later deleted the tweet and issued an apology for her strong words, admitting that she went too far.
What is she saying now?
On Monday, the 73-year-old actress and singer wrote, "RARELY DELETE Twts, but sometimes My passion 4Flag of United States & trump's lack of EMPATHY, EMOTION,INTELLIGENCE, CARING, & HIS PENCHANT 4 CRUELTY 'CHILDREN LOCKED IN CAMPS 4EVER,' STATES BEGGING HIM 4 SUPPLIES & HIM SAYING 'WE'RE NOT SHIPPING CLERKS,' IS LAST STRAW. BUT I WENT '2 FAR' & AM 'TRULY SORRY.'"
She issued a follow-up tweet later, insisting that she was not pressured to retract her initial sentiment.
"This was not because of Outside pressure, It's because My Mom Wouldn't be Proud Of Me," the entertainer wrote. "She hates trump, but she's said 'Cher (she Never Calls Me Cher) There Are Things you Think, & Things You Say… Dont Confuse Them. She's Pretty Liberal,But Sometimes Says 'Cher' That's Beneath you."
In another questionable tweet — this time in May 2019 — Cher said Trump should be sexually assaulted in prison.
"Been giving impeachment much thought throughout the day & I would [love] 2 see Trump impeached, brought 2 trial, [locked] up in [chains], & boy toy of Big Bubba."
She later deleted that tweet, too.
