Chris Cuomo says police reform will happen only after 'white people's kids start getting killed'

'If it were people like me whose kids were getting shot by cops, this would have ended a long time ago'

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo declared Friday the gun reform and police reform that Democrats desperately want will happen only when "white people's kids start getting killed."

What did Cuomo say?

Speaking on his CNN show "Cuomo Prime Time," Cuomo vented frustration over a string of recent mass shootings and officer-involved shootings that have gripped the nation.

According to Cuomo, Republicans, in particular, refuse to address gun violence as a figurative epidemic because they buck COVID-19 restrictions. Cuomo cited Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who said recently he would stop wearing a face mask inside the U.S. Capitol because he is fully vaccinated.

"We refuse to address the violence. We refuse to address the shootings and the violence as a figurative disease. This is a disease. Why would we address that? We refuse to face a real disease," Cuomo began. "We have a real pandemic stalling our civilization. We are the only civilized nation, whose leaders actively try to promote not doing what the science says."

After blasting Cruz, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and telling his audience that "I guarantee" more people have died from COVID-19 than the government admits, Cuomo hypothesized the only answer to police violence and mass shootings is the death of white kids.

"You know what the answer is. You really do. You don't like it. I don't like. It scares me. Shootings, gun laws, access to weapons? Oh, I know when they'll change. Your kids start getting killed, [when] white people's kids, start getting killed," Cuomo said.

Cuomo continued:

[S]moking that doobie that's actually legal, probably in your state now, but they don't know what it was, and then the kid runs, and then "Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!" Cop was justified. "Why'd you run?" "Oh, he had a baseball game tonight." "Oh? White kid? Oh, big family, that house over there?" Those start piling up, "What is going on with these police? Oh, what? Maybe we shouldn't even have police!" That kind of mania, that kind of madness, that'll be you. That'll be the majority, because it's your people.

Cuomo later doubled down while speaking with fellow CNN host Don Lemon.

"If it were people like me whose kids were getting shot by cops, this would have ended a long time ago," Cuomo said.

Lemon responded, "Or never started."
