CNN anchors float conspiracy theory over Trump prosecutor buying Subway for lunch: 'A message to Donald Trump'

CNN anchor John King asserted prosecutor Jack Smith was sending former President Donald Trump a "message" by eating Subway for lunch.

While discussing the "target letter" that Smith sent Trump's attorneys regarding the Jan. 6 investigation, CNN showed footage of Smith exiting a Subway restaurant in Washington, D.C., holding his lunch. He declined to speak to reporters who spotted him leaving the restaurant.

Smith's decisions not to speak to media (which is normal) and to eat a sandwich for lunch (also normal) were extremely significant and full of subliminal messaging, King argued.

"Jack Smith going to Subway today is a message to Donald Trump," he claimed.

"Donald Trump tries to intimidate people. He tries to bully people. He tries to scare you away," King added. "That was Jack Smith with no words and a simple $5 sub in his hand saying: 'I'm here. I'm not going anywhere.'"

CNN anchor Dana Bash agreed with King.

"Yes, the imagery was intentional and spoke volumes," she said.

Minutes prior to floating their message conspiracy theory, Bash boasted that CNN captured the "exclusive" footage of the local man getting a sandwich during his lunch hour.

"Turns out even Jack Smith can't resist a $5 footlong," Bash quipped.

"What is important is the imagery here," she added. "They clearly wanted us to see him and that image to be very different from what we saw in the former president's post, which is that he's a deranged individual."

It's not clear what is more embarrassing: that CNN thinks Smith, who could simply send a message directly to Trump through his lawyers, meant to send the former president a message by getting Subway for lunch or that Bash and King are so out of touch that they think a footlong sandwich at Subway is still $5.
