Disabled veteran in wheelchair allegedly shoots man who ran him over for asking him to turn down his music

A disabled veteran allegedly shot a man who ran him over with his car after the veteran told him to turn down his music, according to KOVR in Sacramento..

Police announced two men are dead following a shooting in California's capital after a noise complaint resulted in a man being run over by an SUV. Multiple neighbors told reporters that a disabled veteran in a wheelchair, who had typically walked his dog in the mornings, confronted a driver in the area.

A gardener on the street said, "The car was stopped, windows were down and playing loud music." The man recalled that the veteran asked the driver to stop blasting his music.

Other witnesses also alleged that the driver ran the veteran over and then the man in the wheelchair pulled out a gun and shot the driver. However, police have yet to confirm whether this was the actual chain of events.

Law enforcement reportedly said that one man was found dead on the scene with evidence of a shooting, while another man had at least one gunshot wound at a different location. The second man is said to have died in a hospital, but police did not identify either victim.

"There is obviously a lot of moving parts to this, a lot of stuff we do not know," said Sergeant Zach Eaton of the Sacramento Police Department. "We know at least one person was shot, but the other person who died, we are still looking into that," he added.

Witnesses described the area as a quiet neighborhood where the worst criminal acts that happen are tire donuts.

"He is a nice guy," a neighbor who knew the veteran said. "He was disabled in a wheelchair. Everybody loves him."

Sacramento has seen a flurry of deadly shootings in June 2023. Two men died in a shooting on June 12, while a drive-by shooting killed a man and a woman in a north Sacramento neighborhood on June 13.

The same neighborhood saw a 1-year-old and a 10-year-old hurt in a shooting in May.

Authorities say that a single 7-mile stretch of Lampasas Avenue in Sacramento contributes to nearly half of all violent crime in the city.
