Dr. Anthony Fauci noted during an interview on MSNBC that many of the children included in the COVID-19 hospitalization numbers are actually hospitalized for reasons completely unrelated to coronavirus, but then included in the statistics because they tested positive after arriving at the hospital.

Fauci, who is the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden and the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the comments while responding to a question about why there has been an increase in kids at the hospital with COVID-19.

"First of all, quantitatively, you're having so many more people, including children, who're getting infected," Fauci said.

He said that "hospitalization among children is much, much lower on a percentage basis than hospitalizations for adults, particularly elderly individuals," but that with the "large volume of infections among children, even with a low level of rate of infection, you're gonna still see a lot more children" in the hospital.

Fauci said that many kids in the hospital with coronavirus are there "with COVID, as opposed to because of COVID. And what we mean by that, if a child goes in the hospital they automatically get tested for COVID, and they get counted as a COVID-hospitalized individual, when in fact they may go in for a broken leg, or appendicitis, or something like that. So it's over counting the number of children who are quote, hospitalized with COVID, as opposed to because of COVID," Fauci explained.

Many people on social media said that they have been saying this for a long time.

"What we said 20 months ago," Laura Ingraham tweeted.

"Trust me, Fauci. We know. We’ve known for 2 years," someone else tweeted.

"We’ve all said this from the beginning … and it includes adults as well smh," another person tweeted.
