Fed-up Oakland residents blast Soros-backed DA over rampant crime due to failed leftist policies: 'There are no consequences'

Frustrated and fed-up Oakland, California, residents fired a barrage of questions and demands at George Soros-backed Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price during a Thursday town hall meeting.

Residents slammed Price’s failed leftist policies for the city’s ongoing rampant crime wave.

Price was scheduled to give a presentation regarding criminal justice at the local Montclair Presbyterian Church last week but was met with harsh criticism from Oakland residents, who stated they no longer feel safe in their city.

Many critics attended the contentious town hall event, filling up the church and packing the sidewalks outside the event.

Price’s presentation lauded her reformative justice policies, including “comprehensive alternatives to incarceration,” that she claims have closed the gap on racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in,” Price stated.

Residents addressed Price and the local police department during the meeting and demanded solutions to Oakland’s surge in crime.

According to Oakland Police Department statistics, robberies and assaults have spiked 15% this year. The department reported over 10,000 burglaries last year. Currently, the city has already experienced 7,000 burglaries in 2023.

During Price’s presentation, one citizen asked, “At what point will you be listening to our safety concerns?”

Price was grilled over her decision to release nine children between the ages of 12 and 17 after they were arrested in May for allegedly committing 35 robberies. The children were also accused of violently assaulting victims.

The DA defended her administration by claiming there had been a lot of “misinformation” regarding the case and noted that the evidence “was not sufficient.”

“The [probation officer] decides whether or not they’re going to bring that child to juvenile hall or whether they’re going to release the child to his or her parents,” Price said.

One citizen demanded, “I just want to say that there must be consequences. It’s unreal that there are no consequences for these children.”

Other Oakland residents urged the police to do more to prevent crimes from happening.

“I know your hands are tied, but you’ve got to do some more preventative stuff,” he told law enforcement officials.

Also on Thursday, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Oakland branch president and local pastor wrote a scathing letter torching Price’s “progressive policies and failed leadership” and calling for a state of emergency.

“Unfortunately, progressive policies and failed leadership have chased away or delayed significant blue collar job development in the city, the Port of Oakland, and the former Army Base,” the Oakland NAACP wrote. “There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety. It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime.”
