8-year-old bit into Halloween candy with a needle pushed inside, according to Massachusetts mom

A mother in Sandwich, Massachusetts, said that her 8-year-old bit a sewing needle that had been pushed into his Halloween candy, and she found one other piece of candy with a second needle.

The family spoke to WCVB-TV but asked to remain anonymous.

"My wife called and said that he had bit into a Twix bar and noticed there was something hard, and ended up finding it was a needle," said the father of the boy. "Came downstairs and told my wife, 'What the heck is this? I found this in my candy!' and so he threw the candy out."

The mother contacted the police after inspecting the other candy and finding a second needle.

"The wrapper had a puncture hole and a sewing needle was found inside the candy bar," police said in a Facebook post about the incident.

The family told police that they had gone trick-or-treating on the Main Street area of Sandwich.

"This is a potential major injury and potentially life-threatening to a little kid," said the child's father to WCVB-TV. "Think about others and don't be so malicious."

The report from WCVB showed photographs of the needles that were reportedly found in the candies.

"The police department is recommending that all trick-or-treat candy should be inspected," the police added in their post. "If your child was trick or treating in the downtown area of Sandwich, please be extra vigilant in checking your children’s candy."

Sandwich is a town of about 20,000 people in Cape Cod.

In a separate incident, the West Boylston Police Department reported that at least two children had received candy that was infused with alcohol. The candy was chocolate with Jose Cuervo tequila inside, but was also labeled.
