Intruder comes into California school, stabs 15-year-old girl to death

Authorities arrested a 52-year-old man after he reportedly stabbed to death a 15-year-old girl at a Stockton, California, high school on Monday.

What are the details?

According to a report from ABC News, the suspect — later identified as 52-year-old Anthony Gray — walked into Stagg High School on Monday afternoon and stabbed 15-year-old Alyicia Reynaga multiple times.

The attacker is said to have driven to the school, entered through a campus gate, and attacked the teen.

Stockton Unified School District Superintendent John Ramirez Jr. said that the attack "happened so quick" that neither security nor staff were able to intervene.

The teen was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the attack.

CBS News reported that Gray was located shortly after the attack and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on murder charges.

Ramirez added, "A trespasser entered the front of our school today, stabbed one of our students multiple times. Unfortunately, she did not make it. The assailant was taken, was detained, and taken into custody immediately."

"The school was also put on lockdown to assure the safety of the rest of our students," Ramirez added in his statement. "We began to work with local law enforcement immediately and they've taken over the investigation."

Ramirez added that the school is in the process of re-evaluating its security protocols.

A motive for the killing remains under investigation at the time of this reporting.

What else do we know about this?

Alyicia, a freshman who played on the school's softball team, will be deeply missed, the school said.

"It hurts," travel softball coach Vincent Enriquez said of the loss. "Everybody here, we loved this girl more than anyone in the world. Who would want to do this to this kid?"

Lia Medrazo, the school's softball coach, added, "I'll always have that empty space in my heart. The girls are going to miss her and I hope her sister comes back and wants to play for her."
