'That is not a question that we should be even asking': Karine Jean-Pierre responds after CNN's Don Lemon asks whether Biden has the mental and physical stamina to serve past 2024

Left-wing CNN host Don Lemon asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre whether President Joe Biden has the physical and mental stamina to serve beyond 2024, but the White House spokesperson said that such a question should not be posed.

Jean-Pierre remarked, "You're asking me this question. Oh my gosh," she said, noting that Biden is the nation's president. "I can't even keep up with him," she said. "That is not a question that we should be even asking. Just look at the work that he does."

Biden, who is currently 79 years old, made history last year by becoming the oldest president ever sworn in to the presidency at the age of 78. If elected to a second term in office, Biden would be 82 years old at the start of that new term, and 86 by the conclusion of his second term.

Last year during an interview with David Muir of ABC News, Biden noted that he plans to run for re-election if he is "in good health."

But such a bid could be an uphill battle unless public sentiments shift in his favor going forward — the president has long been underwater in various job approval polls.

"The presidency is a monstrously taxing job and the stark reality is the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term, and that would be a major issue," David Axelrod said, according to the New York Times.

"Biden doesn't get the credit he deserves for steering the country through the worst of the pandemic, passing historic legislation, pulling the NATO alliance together against Russian aggression and restoring decency and decorum to the White House," Axelrod said. "And part of the reason he doesn't is performative. He looks his age and isn't as agile in front of a camera as he once was, and this has fed a narrative about competence that isn't rooted in reality."

The 2024 presidential election is still more than two years away, but later this year, Americans will cast ballots in the 2022 midterms. Democrats could face significant headwinds during the contest — Americans have been getting hammered by high-flying inflation, and as of Tuesday, the AAA national average price for a gallon of gas has reached a whopping $5.016 per gallon.
