Police release 911 call of 13-year-old Florida boy admitting to killing his mother and sending photos to an 'online friend'

Florida police released audio of a 911 call on which a 13-year-old admitted to stabbing and murdering his mother and sending photographs of her to an "online friend."

The Hilaeah Police Department said the boy made the call on Oct. 12 after killing his mother, 39-year-old Irina Garcia. She had given birth just weeks before being killed and was found murdered next to her baby.

The son told the dispatcher that he planned to kill himself with a gun after stabbing her but decided against it.

"I need to know if your mom is breathing," asked the dispatcher.

"She's dead, Miss," he responds.

Police said they were "dumbfounded" by the murder, as the boy is an honor student and had been described as a "good boy" by neighbors. Police described him as "very quiet" and "very respectful."

At one point in the call, the boy tells the dispatcher that he had taken photographs of his dead mother and sent them to a friend who he knew only online.

"I took pictures and I told my friends about it. Was that bad?" he said.

"You told who about it?" she asks.

"My friend," he replies.

"Your friend? You sent pictures to your friend about what you did?" she asks.

"My friend," he says.

"Who did you send those pictures to?"

"My friend. I don't know his real name because he's an online friend who I play with a lot," he responds.

Police said that the boy lived with his mother and a stepfather, who is a long haul trucker and was on the road at the time of the murder. They said that the baby was unharmed.

Hialeah Police Department spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said they had not yet determined a motive for the murder.

"We don't know, that's something that we're still trying to figure out," Rodriguez said. "He did not say why he did this, all he did was call 911 and advise what he did."

The boy was charged with second-degree murder.
