New Jersey man bludgeoned mother to death after she tried to stop him from cutting tattoo off his leg: Police

A New Jersey man bludgeoned his mother to death after she tried to stop him from cutting a tattoo off his leg, according to police.

James Doran, 30, was charged with the first-degree murder of his mother — whom he lived with. Doran also faces more than a dozen misdemeanor and summary charges, including recklessly endangering another person, evading arrest and DUI, reckless driving, and resisting arrest in Pennsylvania.

Police reportedly found 65-year-old Lillian Doran "obviously dead" on the bedroom floor of her home in Gloucester Township around 10:21 a.m. on Saturday. Police said she had suffered blunt force trauma to her head.

The night before her murder, the mother allegedly got into an argument with her son about him attempting to cut off a tattoo from his leg.

"Witnesses stated that the previous evening, the victim and James Doran had argued about James Doran cutting a tattoo off his leg and walking around the house with a baseball bat," the complaint read. "A witness reported hearing banging sounds and a garage door opening at about 4 a.m."

The mother's vehicle was missing from the home in Blackwood, New Jersey.

Troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police allegedly clocked James Doran driving the missing car at 112 mph around 5 p.m. on Saturday — more than 200 miles from the crime scene.

Doran purportedly stopped the car when the police cruiser attempted to pull him over. However, Doran allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and fled into the woods.

After a short pursuit, Doran was arrested and taken into custody.

"The operator was covered in blood and was acting erratically. The operator refused to identify himself, and the odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath," police said in a report.

Police said there were three alcoholic beverages in plain sight of his mother's vehicle. There was also a baseball bat in the trunk.

Investigators did not reveal whether a weapon was used in the alleged murder and didn't provide a motive for the alleged slaying.

According to court documents, a judge denied bail for Doran because "proof is evident and presumption great that defendant will not comply while on bail."

Doran is currently being detained at the Bedford County Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania as he awaits extradition to New Jersey.
