Oklahoma man allegedly told police he was on meth when he hit a stranger in the head with an ax and killed him

A man living with his mother is accused of murdering a 24-year-old with an axe on Saturday, and he allegedly told police that he had taken meth at the time.

The Pottawatomie County deputies office said that 27-year-old Felipe Reyes Wright Jr. approached Charles Rodgers, who was housesitting next door near Earlsboro in Oklahoma.

Wright and Rodgers got into an altercation, and Wright allegedly struck the man in the head with an axe.

Police said that they received an emergency call about an hour later from Wright after he fled the scene, and he admitted to committing a crime.

KWTV-TV obtained a recording of the 911 call and published it.

"Something really bad happened," said Wright to the dispatcher. “I had some issues going on at home and I dealt with one of the problems. I guess I’m turning myself in to the crime I just committed."

He said that he was going to walk to a police station to turn himself in.

"I've been trying to stay sober at mom's house, go to work, stay off dope. I couldn't do it," he added.

Wright said that his friend was smoking methamphetamine and implied that he had joined him.

He was arrested on the side of the road after police caught up with him. He was booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.

KWTV also published a recording from the man who found Rodgers' body. He identified himself as Wright's brother.

"He needs an ambulance quick!" the frantic man said on the recording. "He's moving! He's moving! He's breathing! Please hurry!"

The man told the dispatcher that he saw multiple wounds on the victim's body and added that he believed his brother was responsible.

"My brother came outside with an axe," he says.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene, but Rodgers was dead by the time they got there.

Investigators said that the two were complete strangers. Court documents said that Wright attacked the man because he had looked into the window of his mother's mobile home, but his family denies that.
