Suspected panty thief wanted for snatching $5,000 worth of women's bras and panties during two-year crime spree

Police in Lakewood, Colorado, have been searching for a suspect who is accused of stealing nearly $5,000 worth of women's bras and panties over the span of two years.

CBS News Colorado reported that a suspect has stolen women's garments that total $4,481 between August 2021 and May 2023. Police believe that the man has been going from laundry room to laundry room, stealing women's underwear, and has committed nearly 30 thefts during a regular skulking of apartment buildings. He is not believed to be a resident of these buildings.

The "suspect has committed at least 26 thefts from various laundry rooms on each floor of Lakeview Towers at Belmar Apartments," the advisory from Lakewood Police Department read. "The suspect primarily steals women's bras and underwear and has taken approximately $4,881 worth of items."

"He was most recently seen in the building in June 2023 and is not a known resident."

This is not the first alleged underwear burglar in recent Colorado history either.

A man was sentenced in 2020 to 26 years in prison on charges which included 22 counts of second-degree burglary, sexual exploitation of a child, theft, and invasion of privacy for sexual gratification. This came after the 35-year-old registered sex offender was caught breaking into University of Colorado dorm rooms and to steal underwear.

In 2018, an Arvada, Colorado, man broke into dozens of homes to steal women's panties.

“It was not just one or two. It was an entire wardrobe of underwear,” one of the victims said. Another victim said the burglar made his way into her home and stole dozens of her panties.

In 2016, a woman in Denver installed surveillance cameras and found that a man somehow got a hold of her house keys and let himself in to steal her underwear.

The man stole the woman's expensive thongs that totaled approximately $1,200.

Colorado does not come close to Japan, however, where there is a reported rampant theft of panties. In 2017 alone, there were an alleged 10,000 cases of underwear theft in the country, 4,000 of which were reportedly solved.

Thieves in Japan predominantly snatch the underwear off clotheslines.
