Video shows delivery man trip suspect and help cops capture alleged car thieves, all without dropping the pizza
April 19, 2023
A pizza delivery man is being hailed as a hero for his quick-thinking actions that led to the capture of two car theft suspects.
Tyler Morrell was delivering a pizza for Cocco's Pizzeria & Pub on Sunday in the city of Aston, Pennsylvania, when he was caught in the middle of a car chase.
"A car just came up doing like 75, he beached on the side of this person's lawn and almost took out a couple of cars," Morrell recalled in an interview with WPVI-TV.
"I started walking towards the road, but I couldn't do anything with my hands because I'm holding the pizza, so I just stuck my leg out," he added.
The video showed one of the suspects crash to the ground after Morrell stuck his leg out while keeping the pizza safe.
The man curses at Morrell before police pounce on him.
Brookhaven Chief of Police Michael Vice said Morrell's actions helped them arrest both suspects.
"He gave us the help we needed, by tripping him it gave us the time to catch up with the gentleman," Vice explained.
Brookhaven police said they were chasing a stolen Kia when Morrell helped them out. They were able to arrest a 17-year-old and 19-year-old Jhonael Gutierrez-Tejada. Both are facing numerous charges.
"I am so sick of seeing crime go on, especially half a mile down the road," said Morrell. "So if they needed a hand or a foot, I was there."
The customer said the pizza was delicious.
Morrell set up a GoFundMe campaign for anyone who wanted to "tip" him. He said the money will go towards his dream of starting his own restaurant, "Morrell's Cheesesteak Company."
He set up a goal of $500 and blew past it with $4,466 of donations in only two days.
