Pro-'Palestine' student says she 'did six hours of research ... from unbiased sources' before leading HS walkout for Gaza ceasefire. No reports of anti-Hamas chants.

A pro-"Palestine" student said she "did six hours of research ... from unbiased sources" before leading a walkout Wednesday at her San Francisco high school for a ceasefire in Gaza.

What are the details?

KPIX-TV reported that the student who led the Balboa High School walkout — a 16-year-old junior named Ixhel — "felt a profound connection to the situation in Gaza and decided to mobilize her fellow classmates."

Ixhel — who has Farsi and Latina roots — explained to the station that the "first plan of action was we made an Instagram account for Balboa, and I did six hours of research and gathered as much information from unbiased sources as I could and put it together in a slideshow. Basically giving all the context to the history and the context of what's happening right now."

KPIX called the 10:30 a.m. Balboa High School walkout a "bold stance."

"We refuse to stay silent!" Ixhel shouted into a megaphone after the walkout. "This cycle of violence must end!"

One student activist was seen holding a sign that appeared to read "From the river to the sea. Palestine will be free" — which the Anti-Defamation League characterizes as a call for "a Palestinian state extending from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, territory that includes the State of Israel, implying the dismantling of the Jewish state."

Other chants included, "Stand up, fight back!" and "Free, free Palestine!" and "Viva, viva Palestina!" There were no reports of chants against the terrorist group Hamas, which launched a deadly surprise attack against Israel earlier this month, igniting the war.

KPIX added that the walkout came in the wake of Tuesday's explosion at a Gaza City hospital. Not that it matters, but Democratic President Joe Biden said Wednesday the blast "appears [like] it was done by the other team," ABC News reported, adding that National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said Wednesday morning the "current assessment ... is that Israel is not responsible for the explosion at the hospital in Gaza yesterday."

San Francisco Unified School District officials confirmed to KPIX there have been anti-Semitic incidents in recent days and that Islamophobia is on the rise.

In regard to the walkout, the district told the station that while it "supports the right of our students to express their views in a peaceful manner, including their constitutional right to peacefully protest, the walkout is not an SFUSD sponsored activity. Safety remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure that that we are creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment for all of our students."

Ixhel told KPIX "this is the power I have at this school. The district is funded for me being there, and if I'm not there for Palestine, I'm hoping it'll make a difference."
