Republicans push resolutions to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib

After a resolution to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan fell flat in the House last week when Democrats and some Republicans voted to table it, the left-wing congresswoman is still being targeted for censure.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, whose resolution to censure Tlaib was tabled last week, put forward a tweaked version on Monday. While Greene's previous resolution accused Tlaib of having "led an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex," the new resolution accuses Tlaib of having "incited an illegal occupation."

Greene's new resolution also points out Tlaib's controversial tweet last week that described the expression "from the river to the sea" as "an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence."

GOP Rep. Rich McCormick of Georgia, who was one of the Republicans who voted to table Greene's resolution last week, also put forward a resolution to censure Tlaib on Monday.

"The resolution previously brought to the floor accused Tlaib of leading an insurrection, which is not true," the congressman told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

"I've put forward a serious resolution to censure @RashidaTlaib that condemns her racist and hate filled rhetoric," McCormick tweeted. "Antisemitism has no place in the People's House and any Representative that advocates for the destruction of the Jewish State must be held accountable."

Tlaib issued a statement on Monday in which she asserted that the resolutions are replete with lies.

"It's a shame my colleagues are more focused on silencing me than they are on saving lives, as the death toll in Gaza surpasses 10,000. Many of them have shown me that Palestinian lives simply do not matter to them, but I still do not police their rhetoric or actions," Tlaib said in the statement. "Rather than acknowledge the voice and perspective of the only Palestinian American in Congress, my colleagues have resorted to distorting my positions in resolutions filled with obvious lies. I have repeatedly denounced the horrific targeting and killing of civilians by Hamas and the Israeli government, and have mourned the Israeli and Palestinian lives lost."
