Roseanne Barr speaks out about her ABC firing: 'Intellectual witch-burning is what it is'

Actress and comedienne Roseanne Barr said that she believes she was quickly kicked off of her "Roseanne" sitcom revival because ABC was looking for a reason to burn her at the proverbial stake over her personal and political opinions.

What are the details?

In her forthcoming Reelz documentary, "Roseanne: Kicked Out of Hollywood," Barr, 69, said that ABC executives sacked her for her comments about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett because they were having issues with everything for which she stood.

"Any tweet that was not 'I love Hillary Clinton,' I got a call for," she said during the documentary, Fox News reported.

Barr added that she once tweeted about a conspiracy theory that a Parkland school shooting survivor had given a Nazi salute at a gun control rally. She later removed the tweet and issued a correction.

"I removed it every time they called," she said. "And they called frequently."

Barr added, "Everyone was begging me to give up my Twitter. Everyone. My kids were trying to lock me out, but I wouldn't because it's like I just couldn't. ... I'm a godd*** American and I'm not going to do it. I'm a comic. I'm a bad girl. I'm too rock and roll. I'm going to say f*** it and f*** you until I take my last breath."

Barr said that she immediately realized she should not have tweeted about Jarrett.

At the time, she wrote, "[M]uslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj," pointing to Jarrett, who is black.

"I shoulda not did it, but by God, I was really p***ed that day," she said. "And I did something I wouldn't do if I hadn't been on that Ambien. It makes you do a lot of crazy s***."

She added that she was not even afforded the opportunity to formally apologize, let alone receive a second chance.

"When they called me up, they were like, 'What possible excuse have you got for why you did this? Why you did such an egregious, unforgivable thing?' And I said, 'I have no excuse. The only thing is, I thought she was white.' And they said nothing back."

The comedian said that she was the victim of an "intellectual witch-burning."

"Witch-burning is what it is," Barr said about being cast out of Hollywood following the tweet and her subsequent firing. "Intellectual witch-burning. And arrogance and ignorance. All of the press of the United States, and the world and how they interpreted my tweet without any knowledge of the fact that I was sending it to a journalist in Iran about what was happening to the people in Iran. We were under such terrible censorship and it's just terrible and frightening."

The documentary airs April 24 on Reelz.
