SEAL Team 1 commanding officer discovered dead at home

SEAL Team 1 commanding officer Cmdr. Robert Ramirez III was discovered deceased at his residence earlier this week on Monday — Naval Special Warfare Command officials noted in a Wednesday statement that foul play is not thought to have been a factor in the man's passing, according to the Military Times.

"Bobby was an outstanding leader, devoted husband and father, and a good friend to us all," Naval Special Warfare Group 1 commanding officer Capt. David Abernathy noted in a statement, according to the outlet. "This is a devastating loss to our community and all who knew him. We will remain in support of Bobby's family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time."

Ramirez had just recently taken command of SEAL Team 1 in November, and he had arrived to the unit earlier this year in June, the Military Times reported, citing the man's releasable service record and command officials.

Over almost 27 years serving the nation, Ramirez has earned five Bronze Star medals, according to the outlet, including a couple with the Combat "V" device indicative of valor and acts of heroism.

In December 2021, SEAL Team 8 commanding officer Cmdr. Brian Bourgeois passed away after getting injured in connection with a training incident.

"Brian was one of our very best leaders, who possessed all the attributes that make our force effective," Naval Special Warfare Command commander Rear Adm. H.W. Howard III — who has apparently since retired — said, according to a press release at the time. "We will miss his charismatic leadership and faithful stewardship of our standard. His legacy carries on in teammates he served with, led, and mentored."
