Howard Stern defends Joe Rogan against cancel culture and 'The View' co-hosts agree

Radio talk show host Howard Stern defended Joe Rogan against those calling for his show to be banned, and some of the co-hosts on "The View" agreed with him, even as they argued against Rogan's positions.

The surprising support comes after legendary musician Neil Young issued an ultimatum for Spotify to either take down Rogan's podcasts or take his music off of its service. Spotify chose to keep Rogan.

While Stern has been decidedly on the pro-vaccine side of the pandemic debate, he said he was against censorship.

“I don’t listen to Joe Rogan. I know Joe from 100 years ago,” Stern said on his SiriusXM show.

“We’re no longer friendly. We were friendly at one point — I just knew him as the funny guy, as a comedian — I knew him before he was on ‘Fear Factor’ actually. I know that his podcast is very popular, they say," he added.

"I am for any performer who can get any money and get paid," he continued. "I’m happy for any young man or woman who can get paid in show business because so many people do not get paid. So those that can, God bless. It ain’t easy. It’s not an easy road. And attracting an audience is not easy.”

Joy Behar agreed while discussing Stern's position on "The View" Wednesday.

"We have a First Amendment in this country, we have to stick with it, you can't just pick and choose of when you want to use the First Amendment!" she said.

"I mean I agree that Joe Rogan is a horror. A horror," Behar repeated. "But the way to counter that, bad speech, is with more speech. They way to counter that is with boycotts.

She went on to say that if other musicians followed the example of Neil Young, it would be a form of "consequence culture" not "cancel culture."

Behar also compared the action to that of people trying to cancel Fox News, saying that the channel should not simply be banned, but if people want to tell their cable providers that they're against it, they are entitled to that opinion.

"I'm against any kind of censorship really. You know, I really am. I don't like censorship," said Stern on his show.
