'Hearing voices': Bronx teen charged with murder of his father, 5-year-old half-brother, boy's mother

A New York City teen was arrested for allegedly stabbing to death his father, 5-year-old half-brother, and the young boy's mother.

Jayden Rivera was arrested on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old suspect faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

On Saturday night, Rivera was reportedly babysitting his 5-year-old half-brother, Kayden Rivera. The teen's father — 38-year-old Jonathan Rivera — and the young boy's mother — 33-year-old Hanoi Peralta — returned to their first-floor apartment in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx. The couple reportedly went on a "paint and sip” date.

Detectives believe the victims were stabbed several times by Rivera, a college student who attended SUNY Oswego.

The New York Post reported, "The suspect left the apartment after the stabbings but returned to pound the bodies with a kitchen pot — striking them so violently that it dented the kitchen object, according to cops and police sources."

Neighbors said they had heard the screaming from the grisly attack.

Neighbor Fernando Cruz told WNYW, "There was a scuffle or something going on in the hallway. I know I heard that, and then I heard a woman screaming."

However, the bodies were not found until the next morning.

At around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to the apartment after receiving a 911 call. Cops discovered the dead father in the first-floor hallway. The 5-year-old boy and his mother were found stabbed to death inside the apartment.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the young boy had been so viciously stabbed that he was essentially disemboweled.

The teen reportedly fled the gruesome crime scene and went to his mother's apartment in the Bronx.

"Later on, when he returned home, he stated to his mother again that he was hearing voices and that he thought that Mr. Rivera and Ms. Peralta were going to hurt him," Kenny told reporters this week.

The mother called for an ambulance. Rivera was reportedly taken to the psych ward at the Westchester County Medical Center, where he allegedly confessed to hospital staff and cops that he had killed people.

According to police, detectives obtained a search warrant and found bloody clothing and a pair of sneakers that matched a bloody footprint inside the apartment.

Roland Bocauski — a superintendent at the building where Jayden lives with his mom — told the New York Post, “I can’t believe it. I don’t believe it, I swear to God, because I don’t see anything bad about these people."

"I manage eight buildings, and I can see in their faces when [people] are crazy and when they are not,” Bocauski added. "I never seen him crazy."

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Rivera's employer to help cover funeral costs.

"His hard work and positive spirit made a significant impact on the entire team," the fundraiser says of Rivera. "You could always find him laughing and supporting teachers as needed, giving high-fives to the students and welcoming parents, always going above and beyond."

"Many of us had the privilege of witnessing the beautiful bond he shared with his son, a Sunshine alumnus and the pride and joy he expressed while talking about his family," the fundraising campaign states.
