Texas junior high teacher arrested on child sex trafficking charges

She tried to sell a minor to men in Morocco

Law enforcement arrested a junior high school teacher in Mexia, Texas, on felony human trafficking charges for allegedly trying to sell an underage family member for sex.

What happened?

According to reports, Amber Michelle Parker, 37, of Fairfield, allegedly tried to provide the minor for sex for men in Morocco. She reportedly communicated with them on Facebook.

An investigator spoke with the victim who said that on Nov. 19 she was at Parker's residence, CenTex.com reported. The teacher reportedly was involved in a conversation with a man and sent him a picture of the victim wearing lingerie, according to reports. Another man joined the conversation and said he would like to have sex with the victim.

Parker allegedly talked to the two men about having them flown to the U.S. so they could have sex with her and the victim. The men also discussed having Parker and the victim to travel to Casablanca, according to reports.

Investigators said Parker allegedly took multiple pictures of the victim and told her how to pose for the photographs so the men would remain interested in her.

The case was opened after a family member came forward to report concerns about Parker's "intentions" with the girl, the Associated Press reported.

Mexia Independent School District Superintendent Lyle DuBus told the media that Parker was in her third year of teaching sixth- and eighth-grade reading/arts. DuBus suspended Parker Wednesday after learning about the allegations. The superintendent sent out a letter to parents informing them the teacher was charged with a felony and would not be returning to the classroom.

"Any adult in our organization that endangers a child will not continue employment," the superintendent wrote.

Parker resigned from her teaching position Thursday.

Any reaction from community members?

Diwhaunne Clark said he grew up in Mexia and graduated from the school district about five years ago.

"It's been going on in our town and we didn't know," Clark said. "I went to this school; my little brother goes to this school so it's real horrific. I didn't anything like that would come out of here and be that crazy you know?"

Clark said he hopes the community keeps a closer watch on the children.

"Pray and watch out for your kids and just be there," he said.

Parker was arrested Wednesday morning and booked into the Freestone County Jail. Bond was set at $25,000.

Mexia is a town of 7,500 located about 40 miles east of Waco, Texas.
