Cops identify suspect by colorful underwear sticking out of his pants during NYC robbery and arrest him

The New York Police Department said police were able to identify a robbery suspect and arrest him by the colorful underwear that was sticking out of his pants on surveillance video.

Federal prosecutors said in a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday that 30-year-old Fathy Hussein participated in a violent robbery while on probation for a weapons violation.

Surveillance video showed Hussein and two accomplices exit a black Mazda 3 Sedan with missing hubcaps while wearing masks and enter a tobacco and smoke shop in Queens on Sept. 14 just before 6 p.m, according to the complaint.

The two accomplices pointed guns at the shop workers as Hussein ran behind the counter and robbed the register of money, investigators said. They were able to get away with $3,000 in cash, $1,000 worth of CBD and marijuana products, and four cell phones.

Prosecutors said that Hussein wore distinctive clothes that were captured on video both inside the shop and outside, including underwear with a large white letter "R" and yellow text reading "1990."

Apparently, Hussein neglected to change his identifiable underwear.

Prosecutors said that a few days later an anonymous tipster contacted police and told them that the crooks were trying to sell the items they had stolen. That tipster also provided the Instagram account of Hussein to police.

When police reviewed the surveillance footage from the same day as the robbery based on the tip, they saw that Hussein was wearing what appeared to be the same underwear while trying to sell the items. He was arrested and awaits arraignment at the Brooklyn Federal Court.

Investigators cited historical cell site data that linked Hussein to the crime scene and its vicinity as well.

Police are still seeking to find the other two suspects, including one who wore a mask from the "Scream" movie franchise during the robbery.
