Honolulu police are forcing medical marijuana users to surrender their guns

There's a new push for gun control in the form of gun confiscation. Twenty-nine states including Hawaii are implementing new ways to confiscate guns starting with medical marijuana users.

Legal marijuana users received a letter from Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard urging them to turn over their firearms to police within 30 days upon receiving the letter.

According to the Star-Advertiser, so far, 30 residents with medical marijuana cards in Oahu have received the letters from the department. The sudden push for gun confiscation is due to a "Revised Statute" the police department cited in the letters.

 Section 134-7(a)

"“Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition," stated the letter. "If you currently own or have any firearms, you have 30 days upon receipt of this letter to voluntarily surrender your firearms, permit, and ammunition to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) or otherwise transfer ownership. A medical doctor's clearance letter is required for any future firearms applications or return of firearms from HPD evidence."

The letters have been going out to residents since January.
