Michigan doctor arrested for genital mutilation is just the tip of the iceberg

On "Reform This!" this weekend, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser explained the depth of the horrific underbelly of the Islamist practice of female genital mutilation, or FGM. Two Michigan doctors and an assistant were arrested in April for performing the procedure.

Dr. Jasser said these arrests merely exposed "the tip of the iceberg," and he claims the root of this practice is the misogyny lying much deeper within Muslim communities. Many Muslims feel strongly that this procedure is part of their Islamic faith.

He and the American Islamic Forum for Democracy have sent a letter to the Anjuman-e-Najmi mosque, serving the Indian sect Dawoodi Bohra, urging them to fight the procedure and turn practitioners in to the FBI and Homeland Security.

He hopes to appeal to the consciences of those in the Bohra community who have previously stood against female genital mutilation as a religious practice.
