In Netflix’s crime thriller “Ozark,” Marty (Jason Bateman) moves his family from Chicago to the Ozarks so he can keep laundering money for Mexico’s second-biggest drug cartel. “Breaking Bad” comparisons are inevitable – but what makes “Ozark” unique?
Chris Mundy, the show’s head writer, joined Friday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” to talk about the saga of “Ozark,” analyze the fascinating Langmore family and spill the details on what actor Jason Bateman is like in real life.
Ruth, played by Julia Garner, might be the writers’ favorite character. Mundy described how the writers approached Ruth as “feral” and “fierce,” driven to survive.
“We loved her just talking about her; we loved her on the page,” he said. “It would’ve been so heartbreaking if once we had an actor doing it, it didn’t come out the way we wanted it, and instead Julia Garner, who plays her, is even better than we could have imagined.”
