A Dallas paramedic, whose name has not yet been officially released, was shot and wounded Monday while treating another gunshot victim. Authorities say the situation escalated from a neighborly dispute.
When police arrived, the gunman, Derrick Lamont Brown, opened fire on them as well while running to take shelter in a nearby home. Sargent Robert Watson arrived while officers were taking cover from the gunfire, grabbed the wounded paramedic, placed him in his squad car and rushed him to the hospital.
A police robot later found the bodies of another victim and Brown, who has a lengthy criminal history including DWI and firearms charges, in the nearby home. Both the paramedic and the victim he was helping survived and were admitted to an intensive care unit at a local hospital.
