Watch: 10 countries are now on alert for plague after deaths in Madagascar
November 13, 2017
The plague has affected a 10th country: Malawi. The East African nation is on high alert along with nine other countries in Africa after dozens of people died of plague in Madagascar.
The World Health Organization has reported more than 2,000 suspected or confirmed cases of the plague, with at least 140 deaths. Known as the “Black Death,” the plague is estimated to have killed at least 30 percent of the population in 14th-century Europe.
Officials have asked people to stop dancing with dead bodies because it helps to spread plague. In a traditional rite, people exhume their dead relatives’ bodies to dance with them through the streets. Brad, Jeffy and Kal discussed the disturbing story on today’s show.
