WRONG RED HEN: Yelp reviewers mistakenly attack Napa restaurant after President Trump tweet

This morning on “The Morning Blaze,” Doc Thompson and Jeffy Fisher revisited the Sarah Huckabee Sanders restaurant scandal from last week. This time it was about a separate restaurant in Napa, California, that has been receiving mistaken negative backlash since the scandal broke, causing the owner to speak out.

Remind me again what happened.

On June 22, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was rudely asked to leave a restaurant in Lexington, VA because of the owner’s political beliefs. About 24 hours after this incident, President Donald Trump tweeted, “The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!”

After the president’s comments on the matter, the restaurant, The Red Hen, began receiving backlash from across the country on social media and in person.

So, what about Napa?

In Napa, CA, there is a Mexican restaurant called The Red Hen Bar & Grill. Once news of Sanders’ treatment broke, the Napa restaurant began receiving threats and several negative reviews on Yelp. In fact, they received so many harmful reviews that Yelp was forced to post an “Active Cleanup Alert,” acknowledging efforts were being made “to remove both positive and negative posts that appear to be motivated more by the news coverage itself than the reviewer’s personal consumer experience with the business.”

Yelp removed the mistaken reviews; however, Norm Sawicki, the restaurant owner, admitted that the police still make occasional drive-bys to make sure that there are no active threats.

Here’s what Doc thinks:

Doc and Jeffy read some of the Yelp reviews on the show, commenting on the ignorance of the reviewers. “Even if you thought...it was part of a chain or something, you’re still just going to bang the local one or whatever? It makes no sense,” Doc said.

The reviews eventually caused the restaurant to shut down their Facebook page.

Jeffy seemed to be in shock of the sheer cluelessness. “People can’t be that dumb,” he said.

Doc replied, “I think you’ve got those radicals...and they just react.”
