14-year-old accused of shooting girlfriend in head several times, including once through the eye, after she tried to break up with him: 'You have to die'

A 14-year-old in Wisconsin is going to be tried as an adult after police say he shot his girlfriend in the head several times after she tried to break up with him.

Just before noon on Sunday, Elia Olson and Jazlene Jones, both 14 years old and living in Racine, Wisconsin, decided to take a walk down some abandoned railroad tracks where they could smoke. During the outing, the two allegedly began arguing when Jazlene told Elia that she wanted to break up with him. At that point, Elia became enraged. He ordered her to turn her phone off, and after she complied, he tossed the phone aside. He then allegedly drew what has been described as "a white revolver" and fired at Jazlene.

Jazlene reportedly begged for her life, but Elia remained obstinate and uttered, "You have to die," or something similar, reports state. He then supposedly fired at least three more rounds at her, all of which struck her in the head before she managed to escape. While Elia searched for her phone, Jazlene flagged down a passing driver, who called 911.

Jazlene, identified to the press by her family, was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a children's hospital in Milwaukee. She has already undergone at least one surgery and likely has other surgeries in her future, but is expected to survive. She has been listed in critical but stable condition and has identified Elia as her attacker.

"At 14 years old, this baby will now have to go through life through one eye and live with bullets in her neck and head," says a GoFundMe account established on Jazlene's behalf. "She went through a major surgery and has more procedures to come. She is living proof of God’s miracles and has a long road to recovery."

While medical teams attended to Jazlene, police began following the suspect. They found him at a friend's house, where they also discovered a backpack which contained a .22 handgun and two magazines for a 9mm, as well as bloody clothing and shoes.

When questioned, Elia allegedly admitted that he shot Jazlene "in a fit of rage over a Snapchat post and breakup." He was then charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18. Though currently housed in a juvenile facility, he will be tried as an adult and faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.

He has been assessed a $500,000 bond and ordered not to have any contact with the victim or any of her associates. He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 18.
