...in his choice of footwear.
I've been thoroughly disappointed today by the coverage of President Obama's choice to wear flip-flops during his vacation. It all started when the conservative New York Post splashed the following picture of the president on its front page and questioned his attire:
The criticism was echoed discussed by the anchors on "Fox and Friends" this morning and conservative blogs. But I'm sitting here asking myself, "really?"
Listen, I'm all for being a presidential watchdog and criticizing Obama when it's necessary. But bashing Barack for flip-flops? Come on! Why does being president preclude one from wearing sandals on vacation. It's not like the guy is walking down Pennsylvania Ave. (or even his hotel lobby) in a European man thong. Heck, he even has a collared shirt on!
I expect more. For example, this picture could have been used with the headline "FLIP-FLOPPER?" to highlight the story of how Obama once voted against raising the debt ceiling and now is all for it. That's a productive criticism. But stories like this make conservatives look like petty children.
Lay off the guy's feet, and instead focus on his policies.
