It was Newt Gingrich who was hit hard by negative campaign ads in Iowa from Mitt Romney's supporters. Now in South Carolina the roles have switched.
A pro-Gingrich Super PAC released an ad Wednesday suggesting it would be a disaster for Romney to debate President Barack Obama in a general election. And Thursday Gingrich's campaign released another ad calling Romney "desperate." It uses old footage of former Republican presidential candidates Mike Huckabee, John McCain and Fred Thompson attacking Romney.
