Testy Chris Matthews Responds to 'Thrill Up His Leg' Question: 'Horse's A** Right Winger

"Perhaps I shouldn't have said so because I've given a lot of jacka**es the chance to talk about it."

Chris Matthews is so over the "thrill up his leg."

Let me clarify. The MSNBC host is not over President Obama.  He is merely tired of people referencing the statement he made when he realized that he had a serious political crush on then-candidate Obama.

That moment happened back in 2008 during MSNBC's primary coverage in March, and quickly become one of the most-referenced examples of media bias in favor of Barack Obama. Mr. Matthews was speaking with his co-anchor that evening, Keith Olbermann:

Even Olbermann realized that the "thrill" was going to be the phrase people would have fun with.

Matthews and his thrill became the subject of talk radio ridicule, late night talk show host jokes, newspaper columns, and so on. His honesty reverberated into something that is actually coveted by advertising gurus on Madison Avenue and sketch comedy writers on SNL - a catch phrase!

It appeared for while that the elder statesman of MSNBC would embrace this branding. Watch as he brings it up himself, months later:

But now, it seems, time and some twisting of the original wording may have soured Matthews on his brilliant branding. Perhaps he has grown tired of hearing about the thrill up his leg because so many people have actually misquoted Matthews, frequently claiming that he got a tingle up his leg. He did not tingle, as he points out here to Third Way co-founder Jim Kessler:

So, if you mention that Matthews gets a "tingle" up his leg, you are a right wing fascist. (Even if you are a member of a moderate group like Third Way.)

Fast-forward a bit to a recent panel event in Boston where C-SPAN's Steve Scully asked about the thrill, only to be excoriated by Chris Matthews, who offers a lecture and calls those who keep bringing up the issue "jackasses":

"Perhaps I shouldn't have said so because I've given a lot of jackasses the chance to talk about it," Matthews responded. Later he added, "I hope that you feel satisfied that you've used the most obvious question that is raised by every horse's ass right-winger I ever bump into."

So now we know:

Tingle = Right wing fascist

Thrill = Jackass or horse's ass

Thanks for clarifying, Chris!
