Pelosi Praises Obama in DNC Speech: 'We Are Determined to Re-Elect an Extraordinary President

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's speech before the Democratic National Convention Wednesday had a simple, easy to remember message: "Vote for Barack Obama." And she repeated it many times, just to make sure everyone got it. She spoke about President Obama in flattering terms throughout her address, calling him an "extraordinary president" who will reignite the American dream.

Pelosi said Democrats "are determined to re-elect an extraordinary president who, in no ordinary time, led America back from the brink of depression — while Republicans tried to block him at every turn." Nearly all of her speech compared the president's policies, which she framed as great successes, to her theory of how Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's policies would destroy the economy and disenfranchise American citizens.

She also said it isn't just President Obama who is on the ballot in November.

"Medicare is on the ballot," Pelosi said. "Democrats will preserve and strengthen Medicare. Republicans will end the Medicare guarantee," she added, making sure to throw in another "Vote for Barack Obama" in.

"Social Security is on the ballot. Democrats enacted it. Democrats will fight to preserve it. Some Republicans want to replace the guarantee of Social Security with the gamble of private accounts. It’s just plain wrong," she continued."Vote for Barack Obama."

Also "on the ballot," Pelosi explained, are women's rights, Democracy and the American dream -- all of which Republicans are against, according to the former speaker of the House. "Vote for Barack Obama," she said again.

Pelosi also touted the president's record on jobs, saying America has gone from losing 800,000 jobs a month to adding 4.5 million private sector jobs over the past 29 months. She did not mention how many jobs have been lost in the past 29 months or that the unemployment rate has remained frustratingly high, now at 8.3 percent.

"With President Obama, we will move America forward. When you go to the polls, vote for strong Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. Vote for Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama," the House minority leader said.
