MSNBC Guest Spins Obama's 'Bulls***ter' Attack on Romney: It Was a 'Great Moment' That Displayed 'His Humor' and 'Affection For Kids

President Barack Obama was pelted with criticism on Thursday by those who feel it was unpresidential for him to call his Republican rival Mitt Romney a "bullsh**ter" in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

But as one MSNBC guest proved later on Thursday, Obama's most loyal supporters can spin anything the president says and turn it into a positive. MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell argued that the magazine merely caught Obama in an  "unvarnished" moment while her guest Democratic strategist Catherine "Kiki" McLean said the president's comments showed his "humor" and "affection for kids."

To put Obama's comments into context, here's what the he said, according to a previous report from Politico:

Rolling Stone cover, “Obama and the Road Ahead: The Rolling Stone Interview,” by Douglas Brinkley: “We arrived at the Oval Office for our 45-minute interview … on the morning of October 11^th. … As we left the Oval Office, executive editor Eric Bates told Obama that he had asked his six-year-old if there was anything she wanted him to say to the president. … [S]he said, ‘Tell him: You can do it.’ Obama grinned. … ‘You know, kids have good instincts,’ Obama offered. ‘They look at the other guy and say, “Well, that’s a bullsh–ter, I can tell.”’”

“I don’t know how this plays, but it seems that this is the president unvarnished and Rolling Stone had it on the record and put it up,” Mitchell said.

"That's clearly a moment talking about what happens in the world that isn't just the high stakes of politics," McLean said. "I am the mother of an 8 and 10-year-old, and I can tell you that my 10-year-old has asked about the 47 percent."

She continued: “That is a moment of the president showing his humor and his affection for kids and that’s a great moment.”

Mitchell looped in NBC's Brian Williams, saying that there may be some "friction" between the candidates during the campaign but said "that doesn't really obtain to a personal animus."

Williams said Obama has also used the "barely veiled term" that he considers Romney a "pitch man."
