Appropriate? Katy Perry Wears Racy Outfit During Performance at Kids Inaugural Ball With Michelle Obama

"At least she didn't sport her whipped cream-spewing bra..."

Pop star Katy Perry is known for her popular music, but the performer has also regularly captured attention for wearing some oft-times curious clothing. While many of her outfits are considered goofy, they've also been political at moments, especially during the 2012 presidential campaign. Consider the dress she wore a few months ago at a rally for President Barack Obama -- one that included the president's "forward" slogan. And there were others, including one that featured a Democratic ballot. But now, Perry is back in the news after she wore a skimpy, patriotic dress at a children's inaugural ball over the weekend.

The event, attended by US First Lady Michelle Obama, Sasha Obama, Malia Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, was held prior to the official swearing in of US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled for January 20, 2013, with a ceremonial swearing in on January 21. Credit: AFP/Getty Images

Yahoo! has more about the outfit, which turned some heads considering that the singer performed for an audience comprised of children:

The 28-year-old singer donned a patriotic ensemble as she performed at the Kids' Inauguration Ball on Saturday in Washington, D.C. The racy, curve-hugging one-piece she sported may seem an odd choice for entertaining a few thousand children and their parents, but at least she didn't sport her whipped cream-spewing bra, right?

Perry appeared alongside Usher and the cast of "Glee" at the fete, which was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's wife Jill in honor of military families.

Michelle Obama, who hosted the Kids' Inaugural Concert alongside Jill Biden, introduced Perry to the audience of excited kids. After Obama said, "It is now my pleasure to introduce the fabulous Katy Perry!," the singer emerged wearing (as per the Associated Press) "what looked like a vintage swimsuit, covered patriotically with stars and stripes." Perry said that she was proud to be at the event and "to see the Obamas and the Bidens here for four more years."

Usher and three cast members from the show "Glee" also performed at the event and Nick Cannon emceed. In addition to the thousands of children and adults who were there, the concert was live streamed to select bases across the country.
