These Are Apparently Pictures of George W. Bush's Personal Paintings That Were Released After He Was Hacked

"Under criminal investigation."

HOUSTON (TheBlaze/AP) -- Personal photos of the former Bush presidents, including one of George H.W. in the hospital, have been leaked after email accounts of several family members were hacked. A criminal investigation is now under way after a hacker apparently accessed emails sent between members of the Bush family and friends.

The Houston Chronicle reports that a spokesman for former President George H.W. declined to comment on a report on The Smoking Gun website detailing the alleged security breach.

Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told the Chronicle the matter is "under criminal investigation." McGrath did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment by The Associated Press early Friday.

The Smoking Gun says the hacker went by the online moniker "Guccifer," a word plastered across the leaked photos in translucent, neon blue print. The website quotes "Guccifer" as describing himself as a veteran hacker who has long been in the government's sights. Here's more details about the hacker from The Smoking Gun:

The hacker contends that “The feds” began investigating him a “long time ago,” and that he has hacked “hundreds of accounts.” Asked if he was concerned about the FBI/Secret Service investigation that will no doubt follow shortly, he replied crytically, “i have an old game with the fucking bastards inside, this is just another chapter in the game.”

The Smoking Gun reported the hacked mails included a confidential list of contact information for Bush family members. The website indicates that at least six email accounts from family members and close friends were hacked, which allowed for the breach of this information.

The content of some of the correspondence, which The Smoking Gun says was sent between 2009 and 2012, included everything from scheduling activities, like a golf outing, to more sensitive information like a security code for the gate to access George W.'s property and details about the health of George H.W.

Here's more from The Smoking Gun:

The hacked e-mails reveal that Bush’s health was so perilous in late-December that the former president’s chief of staff wrote his children to inform them that “your dad’s funeral team is having an emergency meeting at 10 a.m. just to go through all the details.” The Bush aide, Jean Becker, noted that this information “fell under the broadening category of things NOT TO TELL YOUR MOTHER.”

In a December 26 e-mail to his siblings, George W. Bush wrote that he was “thinking about eulogy” and solicited stories that best illustrated their father’s sweet nature, favorite jokes, and acts of kindness. “Hopefully I’m jumping the gun,” noted Bush, who added, “But since the feeling is that you all would rather me speak than bubba, please help.” The mention of “bubba” is apparently a reference to Clinton, whom Bush has referred to as a “brother” due to his close relationship with George H. W. Bush.

The Smoking Gun reached Dorothy Bush, daughter of George H.W. and sister of George W. whose AOL email account was compromised, on the phone and reported her saying, "Why would someone do this?"
