Actor Clint Eastwood has joined more than 100 prominent Republicans in calling for same-sex couples to be allowed to legally marry, just months after his prominent appearance at the Republican National Convention.

American Foundation for Equal Rights spokesman Manny Rivera confirmed to TheBlaze that Eastwood signed on to the amicus brief to the Supreme Court, which is hearing a challenge to California's Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage. Word that Eastwood had signed was first reported by Breitbart News.

Rivera told TheBlaze the brief was expected to be submitted to the Supreme Court Thursday afternoon.

Other signatories include former Republican presidential candidate and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and former California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, who supported Prop. 8 when she ran.

Editor's note: This post has been updated to reflect that more than 100 Republicans have signed the brief.
