Allen West joins call for congressional investigation of Benghazi attack

Republicans on Capitol Hill are calling for the formation of a formal committee to further investigate the September 11 attacks on Benghazi, Libya. Now, they also boast the support of a former member of Congress: former Rep. Allen West, R-Fla.

In a letter addressed today to Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., the chief sponsor of legislation to form the committee, West writes:

As a former Member of Congress who also served in uniform, I know how important it is that we learn the truth about why military support was never sent to the Americans under fire at the U.S. annex in Benghazi last September.... We owe it to the families of the four victims and the survivors -- some of whom sustained serious injuries and were still at Walter Reed hospital months after the attack -- to fully investigate this terrorist attack and the Obama Administration's questionable response in the days and weeks that followed.

According to US News, the House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a hearing on May 8 to "examine evidence that Obama Administration officials have attempted to suppress information about errors and reckless misjudgments." Personnel who were on the ground in Libya who witnessed the attack are expected to testify.
