News broke Thursday afternoon of a gunman firing several shots in Texas' largest airport Thursday afternoon before turning a pistol on himself. And now video has surfaced showing the suspenseful moments immediately after.

Houston Police Department sources told TheBlaze the situation could have been a whole lot worse as the suspect intended to "take out the entire terminal" at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic with people running in every direction, not necessarily knowing from where the shots were being fired. But that wasn't at first the case, according to Greg Newburn, who was just beyond the security area in a cafe with restaurants.

Newburn said in a NewsFix video that after two shots were fired everyone froze per the instruction of someone else.

"I thought what I heard were several more shots," Newburn continued. "Then everyone just scattered ...flipped over tables to get behind" and screamed.

He said the shots stopped and everyone who had taken cover stayed in place for a couple minutes before figuring it might be safe to move again.

In this raw footage, you can hear the Newburn breathing heavily and see him shaking as he holds is camera low among cafe tables, presumably after the shooting had taken place:

This NewsFix video has Newburn's account of the scene:

It was first reported that the man's self-inflicted wounds were what killed him, but Houston police Capt. Dwayne Ready later said, according to the Associated Press, it was unclear if the unidentified man fatally shot himself or was killed by a Homeland Security agent who had confronted him. Initial reports said the man turned the gun on himself after an air marshal fired at him but missed.

Ready says the agent confronted the gunman after the man had fired one shot into the air around 1:35 p.m. Thursday and had refused to drop his weapon. Ready says the agent fired at the gunman at the same time as it appeared he was shooting himself.

Officials say an autopsy will be conducted on Friday, which should be able to determine who caused the death.

Police would not say what kind of weapon the man had, but other media reports say an AR-15 was used to fire the initial shots before a pistol was brought against himself.

There were no other reported injuries, but incoming air traffic was delayed from landing and Terminal B near where the incident occurred remained closed.

A HPD source told TheBlaze the man was from out of town and that officers were searching a hotel.

TheBlaze's Jon Seidl contributed to this report from Houston. The Associated Press also contributed to this report.
