Plus a collection of U.S. presidents in their middle and high school years.

Well here’s something fun: TIME has acquired previously unpublished photos of a 17-year-old Barack Obama preparing for his senior prom:

“Barry spent his days at the Punahou School in Hawaii studying, shooting hoops and goofing off with his friends,” TIME notes. “On prom night … Obama and his date Megan Hughes, a student at the Hawaii School for Girls at La Pietra, … sipped champagne before going to the dance and then an after-party.”

After looking through the president’s prom photos, we got to thinking: why not dig up old middle and high school photos of past presidents?
