"...lawmakers in the state of Pernambuco have recommended a ban on swimming along parts of the coast in response to the attack."
Graphic and disturbing video released by a Brazilian website captures the moment a drowning teenager was fatally bitten by a bull shark. The attack reportedly occurred just a few moments before a lifeguard arrived on a watercraft to save her.
Bruni Gobbi, 18, suffered a severe bite wound to her left leg and died from her injuries the next night, CNN reports. Gobbi was swimming with her cousin at Viagem beach near Recife when they started to drown.
The graphic footage of the attack was later released by the Brazilian website Corrieo. The disturbing video shows splashing then a red cloud of blood in the water moments before a lifeguard reached the attack victim.
Gobbi is the first woman to die from a shark attack in Pernambuco since record-keeping began in 1992, O Globo reported.
"According to The Huffington Post's translation of a Globo TV report, lawmakers in the state of Pernambuco have recommended a ban on swimming along parts of the coast in response to the attack," HuffPost notes.
