Iran's 'Moderate' New President Ducks Question About Whether the Holocaust Happened: That's for Historians

"I'm not a historian. I'm a politician."

New Iranian President Hasan Rouhani, repeatedly hailed as a "moderate" after his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, nevertheless ducked a question about whether he believes the Holocaust is a "myth" in an interview with NBC News.

"President Ahmadinejad said the Holocaust was a myth. Do you agree?" NBC's Ann Curry asked Rouhani in the interview, broadcast Thursday.

"I'm not a historian. I'm a politician," Rouhani answered. "What is important for us is that the countries of the region and the people grow closer to each other, and that they are able to prevent aggression and injustice."
