Sick of Long-Winded Acceptance Speeches at Awards Shows? This Actress' 'Thank You' Will Get You Cheering

Merritt Wever won an Emmy Sunday night for best supporting actress in a comedy series.

She would have taken home the "Brevity Is the Soul of Wit" prize, too, if they gave that one away.

No time clock countdown or meddling music cuing a commercial break needed for this short-winded thespian; Wever, of Showtime's "Nurse Jackie," limited her speech to following:

"Ah, thanks so much...um, thank you so much. Um...I gotta go, bye."

That's it.

And she brought the house down anyway...and impressed the show's host, Neil Patrick Harris, who noted after, "Merritt Wever, best speech ever."

Wever, who sounded a bit unnerved and emotional at the mic, later said backstage she made a quick exit when she realized she was about to cry, CBS reports.
