Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford apologized Monday for knocking over a Toronto City Council member during a meeting aimed at stripping him of power.
"It was a complete accident," Ford said, according to NBC News. "I sincerely apologize."
The council member involved in the incident, Pam McConnell, reportedly suffered a fat lip. Ford said he "rushed over there" because his brother was "in an altercation," according to NBC News.
Footage of the incident immediately went viral, with the stunned newscaster initially saying Ford had "attacked somebody."
