Glenn Beck and his radio co-hosts Wednesday responded to the highly-publicized debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham over evolution, calling the entire argument "idiotic."
"It's so stupid," Stu Burguiere remarked. "As a Christian, your standard is, you have to have every detail perfectly proven of what happened thousands or millions of years ago. Yet the scientists ... a hundred years ago were saying that we should breed out certain races because they were inferior. I don't know if you guys know this -- you guys don't have the best record of getting everything right and knowing everything and every particular time."
Burguiere added: "How long did it take you guys to figure out you were supposed to wash your hands in between surgeries? It took almost all of humanity."
Beck said that he's "sick" of "all the arguments [being] about control," and that we as a nation need to unite on what brings us together.
"Is it essential to know this, and decide this for the saving of the republic?" he asked.
Beck compared the situation to a person's relationship with their spouse, saying you may not agree on which movie to watch or where to go to eat, but you know "the truth" that you want to be together forever.
"Do we want to be together? Do we want to live in the same country with each other?" Beck asked. "No. We've got people saying, 'You don't belong here. You disagree with us, get out.'"
If that's the case, Beck said, "there's nothing I can do to talk to you, then."
Particularly when it comes to a topic as complex as evolution, Beck urged, the nation should not let itself be divided.
"Can't we just get along?" Beck said. "Let's just move on."
