This Wanted Suspect Is About to Get Tackled By a Police Officer — With a News Crew Ready to Catch It on Camera

Dramatic video captured by a local CBS news affiliate Monday shows a Sacramento police officer tackling a wanted suspect as he attempted to flee on a bicycle.

The footage, shot by KOVR-TV photojournalist James Taylor, shows an intense scene unfold as 19-year-old Michael Kennedy — who had outstanding warrants for fleeing police, burglary and felony assault on an officer — jumped a fence, hopped on a bicycle and started making his way down the street, hoping to elude officers.

With the camera rolling, an approaching officer lunged at Kennedy, tackling him to the ground. A bystander, Louis Buchetto, ran to the scene and assisted the officer as reinforcements make their way to help.

“I am not letting go, and I’m doing everything I can to keep that guy subdued, holding his arm, holding his neck,” Buchetto told KOVR, recalling the incident.

“People doing the right thing matters to me,” he added. “The bottom line is that police officer puts his butt on the line every day, and I’m going to help.”

According to police, Kennedy was hiding out in a neighborhood garage when he attempted to make the getaway, KOVR-TV reported.

The officer involved in the tackle reportedly suffered a minor face wound. Another officer involved in the initial chase also injured his hand while attempting to climb a fence.
