Teen With Autism Has an Inspiring Message: 'The World Doesn't Owe You

Andrew, 19, doesn't think the world owes him anything, despite the added difficulties he faces in life. It's "what you do in this world" that makes a difference, he said, not what you receive.

The young man, whose last name was not given, appeared on the Glenn Beck Program Wednesday in a discussion with Amy Morin, whose list of "13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do" went viral earlier this year.

"I have autism and PTSD, [and] a common thing with people like me that have those things - they think the world owes them stuff," Andrew said, searching for the right words. "[They think] the world owes them on things, because of what they've been through. I personally don't think so."

Andrew said that sometimes people who have been "receiving help" need to be reminded that "the world doesn't owe you."

"It's what you do in this world that, you try to make a difference," he said earnestly. "It's like, how should I say this? I'm sorry. Whenever I was having a really hard time in a certain period of my life, I felt like the world owed me ... and I kinda find out that [the] world doesn't owe you."

Beck asked the young man what he wants to do with his life, and Andrew replied: "I'm in the radio business, so I do that for a living ... I started out pretty young. I had friends in the business that did that, and they kinda showed me around."

Beck smiled at the young man, agreeing: "You've got to make it yourself."
